Bob Brandt - Ward 3 - Blumenort area
Bob and Linda have been married for 42 years and have 2 children, Rob and Jen Brandt and Brenda who lives in Redding Ca. They are very proud of all 5 of their grandchildren; Taylor, Hunter, Jackson, Treyden and Reese. They still live in the Clearsprings area and have for the last 40 years.
In his early years he spent 4 years in construction working on road building projects and projects like the Portage Diversion, the Red River Floodway and spent 6 months working up in the Arctic. This work gave him an appreciation for engineering and the challenges involved in this type of work.
Bob started in sales in 1971 selling farm machinery. After that he spent 8 years with Harvestore covering an area from the Red River to Nipigon north east of Thunder Bay. This gave him an appreciation of the complexities of agriculture in different regions of the country.
In 1985 they purchased a resort in the Whiteshell which they sold 3 years later after which they started a company called Double R Farm Equipment which they sold to his brother in law in 2002.
They started Crikside as a powersports dealership in the fall of 2002 which has evolved into taking on the Husqvana line covering chainsaws, lawn and garden equipment to taking on the full line of their commercial construction equipment. In the last few years they took on the Kioti tractor line providing tractors from 22 hp to 90 hp. Through the years Bob was fortunate enough to take over situations where businesses were dead in the water and turn them around and make them go. Doing this for the fifth time with Crikside this might be his last time! Who knows?
They have been involved with Southland Church where Bob served on the Elder Board for 13 years stepping down in 2005. In the Spring of 2007 he went to Uganda for the first time and helped establish a Canadian Charity called Tupendane. They are providing farm equipment and help to the Ugandan church to develop agriculture to help feed the people of Africa. Presently they provide help to feed 2200 kids daily with a goal to have them self-sufficient in another 2 years. Bob has been back there twice more and finds it a very fulfilling task.
On Council Bob has served on the Planning committee and spent the last 4 years on the Finance and Administration Committee and served as Chair for the last 2 years. Presently Bob is back on Planning as Committee Chair.
Bob also serves on the Board of Directors of the Seine Rat River Conservation District. He is also Chair Sub District 8 of the Conservation District. Drainage, water retention, water control and the preservation and development of wetlands are becoming more important in our region.
Bob believes that they must always remember on their tenure on Council to leave our RM a better place than where we started from.
