Snow Removal and Ice Control Policy

The RM of Hanover has created a Snow Removal Policy to ensure there is a standard for level of snow removal as to maintain an acceptable level of service and safety within the municipality. Our crews tackle nearly 500 miles of our rural road network, which is in addition to our 5 urban centers’ streets.

Our fleet consists of 5 motor graders, 2 plow trucks and 1 sanding truck. We encourage our ratepayers to check out our entire Municipal Snow Removal policy No. WOR-004 (click the link or find it below) to understand our Public Works Staff’s marching orders once snow starts accumulating.

Here’s a quick summary:

Annually, Council sets the standard and priorities for when our snow removal equipment are to be deployed.  Priority ONE is to enter urban communities and keep RD32N Ridge ROAD once snow fall has ceased and that visibility allows for safe equipment deployment.  The next priorities will be to move on to rural grid roads, then followed up by rural developments.  Each Local Urban District has its own street priorities as set by its elected officials.
